Waihopai Station

The Waihopai station in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand, is a plant of the New Zealand Government Communications Security Intelligence Bureau ( GCSB ).

The system is, as well as the Tangimoana station, part of the ECHELON project and captures the telecommunication of in January 1994 that entered service in satellite Intelsat 701 from which supplies the Pacific.

As part of the publications on monitoring and espionage in 2013 it was revealed that server of the plant are also used to operate the spyware XKeyscore with which the U.S. intelligence agency NSA to monitor a large part of the global Internet connectivity.
