Waited Up ' Til It Was Light is the first real studio album by British indie rock band Johnny Foreigner from Birmingham. The predecessor WeLeftYouSleepingAndGoneNow was itself recorded and released only in limited quantity. Waited Up ' Til It Was Light was released on 2 June 2008 in the UK by the independent label Best Before Records. It was offered in North America on July 22 by online retailer, before it came to the record stores on 23 September. The album was recorded in Hoboken (New Jersey) with producer Machine, who had previously worked among others with the progressive rock group King Crimson. The album artwork was designed by Lewes Herriot and shows various places in Birmingham. The British version of the album also includes interchangeable album cover.

It is often said that the song Cranes and Cranes and Cranes and Cranes the theme song of the sitcom I Dream of Jeannie Samplet. However, the track begins with the melody of the title track, before it goes into the actual song. However, the lyrics of the song includes a reference to the series.

  • The American version of the album contains a re-recording of the song Champagne Girls I Have Known from EP Arcs Across the City, between Lea Room and Our Bipolar Friends.

Reception

The album received mostly positive reviews. NME awarded eight out of ten and wrote:
