Waldburg-Capustigall

The house Waldburg- Capustigall is a Prussian line of the Southern German noble family Waldenburg. The name derives from the seat of the family in the East Prussian Capustigall near the city of Königsberg in Prussia. From 1850 the town was usually called Waldenburg.

The first Prussian Steward to Waldenburg was the German Teutonic Knights Frederick I (1494-1554), a younger brother of William Steward of Waldburg, Mr. Scheer and on Trauchburg.

In the known from Beethoven Biography Earl Steward - Waldenburg is Friedrich Ludwig III. Count Steward to Waldenburg (1776-1844), 1803-1808 Württemberg envoy in Vienna, from May 1808 in Kassel Lord Chamberlain to Queen Catherine of Westphalia. The Count presented the composer in October 1808 the offer to take over the Kapellmeister at the court of Napoleon's brother Jérôme Bonaparte in Kassel.

Mathilde Countess Steward to Waldenburg (1813-1858) was married to Richard Burggraf Friedrich Dohna - Schlobitten ( 1807-1894 ). Their descendants, the Counts Dohna - Schlobitten managed the estate Waldenburg until their expulsion in World War II. The castle was razed to the ground, the place was not repopulated after the war.

Mathilde's cousin Gebhard, the last Waldburg- Capustigall, died childless in 1875, bringing the Prussian line of the Stewards went to Waldenburg.
