History

The district Waldeck- Frankenberg was born on 1 January 1974 as part of the municipal reform in Hesse from the district Waldeck Frankenberg district in the north and the south. The larger Waldeck was until 1929 a separate free state in the German Empire, and previously a principality of his own with Bad Arolsen as its capital. 1929 Waldeck became part of the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau and divided into three circles: Circle of Eder ( town of Bad Wildungen ), Circle of Eisenberg ( county seat Korbach ) and circle of Twiste ( town of Bad Arolsen ). After 1942 these three circles to the district Waldeck were combined with Korbach as the county seat.

The old district of Frankenberg, however, belonged to Hesse -Kassel. He was in 1932 the Office Battenberg attached, which, together with the Office Gladenbach the circle Biedenkopf formed by then in Hesse- Darmstadt. These two Altkreise were now united in the context of local government reform and additionally further limit corrections were carried out. Volkmarsen from the district Wolf Hagen and Schiffelbach from the district of Marburg were incorporated, the Waldeck city Zuschen other hand, was a district of Fritzlar in today Schwalm- Eder-Kreis.

The border between the two Altkreisen is still a small cultural boundary represents the Benrather line runs approximately between the two Altkreisen and divides the circle in a Low German, waldeckischen and a central Germany, Hesse part. In the Protestant churches of the county between the Church of Hesse Electorate - Waldeck ( Waldeck Altkreise and Frankenberg ) and the Church of Hesse and Nassau (part of the former district Frankenberg ) is divided. In the Catholic Church is the Waldecker formerly part of the territory of the Archdiocese of Paderborn, whereas the old district of the city of Frankenberg and Volkmarsen are assigned to the diocese of Fulda.

District

Acting District Administrator is since 1 January 2010 Reinhard Kubat. He was elected in a runoff election on July 19, 2009, 54.3 percent of the vote.

Coat of arms

Blazon: " From left diagonally divided blue and gold; above the growing split of silver and red Hessian lion, below the black eight-pointed star Waldecker ".

The lion as an emblem of the city of Frankenberg and land county Hessen or their successor states symbolizes the southern part of the county, the former county Frankenberg. The star is the heraldic symbol of the former Principality of Waldeck and was already out in the coat of arms of the former district of Waldeck.

Economy

The county was and sometimes still is one of the traditionally less favored regions in Germany. Specifically, the remote mountainous areas of the Upland were affected until the first half of the 20th century of poverty. This is reflected by the presence of the relatively low population density of 86 inhabitants per km ²; after the Vogelsberg, the second lowest in the state. Bearing in mind, however, that Waldeck -Frankenberg is by far the largest county in area in Hesse.

Especially in the south circle in Frankenberg and in the cities Korbach and Bad Arolsen, however, have developed various industries prosperous in the 1950s. Among other things, as the largest employer in the district heating technology manufacturer Viessmann has its headquarters in Allendorf ( Eder), which more than 10,000 employees worldwide, of which 4000 in Allendorf, or the internationally known furniture manufacturer Thonet, and the printing and injection molding factory Hettich in Frankenberg and there also some world's leading mid-sized companies in the so-called hot runner technology. An important branch of industry in addition to the furniture and plastic also the rubber industry. The largest employer in the North District is the tire factory of Continental AG in Korbach with around 3400 employees at the site. Overall, working in the district, 42% of employees in the manufacturing sector. Agriculture and forestry play in the rural county is still a big part 784 km ² of the circular area is used for agriculture, 843 km ² of forest areas. Thus, this share is 88 % of the total county area. In agriculture, however, only 572 inhabitants are employed as employees for a total of 2220 farms, which is only slightly more than one percent of the total employees.

The four medium-sized centers Korbach, Bad Arolsen, Bad Wildungen and Frankenberg are also important locations for the service sector; Another important part of this is tourism. The holiday region " Waldecker Land" ( among which also the old circle Frankenberg mitvermarktet ) is one of the most important tourist regions of Hesse and attracts visitors from all over Germany, especially from the neighboring North Rhine- Westphalia as well as historical reasons, also from the Netherlands, since the great-grandmother of the former Dutch kings Beatrix, Emma of Waldeck- Pyrmont, from the waldeckischen prince house dates. In the Hessian Upland Winter Sport plays a big role, especially Willingen has an important role as a venue for the ski jumping World Cup to. The rest of the district, but most of all the places the large prey is mostly visited in summer. The Lake Eder plays an important role as a recreational area for about 40 km away Kassel and also the town of Marburg. This has been upgraded yet through the establishment of the National Park basement Edersee in 2004 In addition, the historical inner city with many half-timbered buildings of interest.; Korbach and Bad Arolsen for example, lie on the German Framework Road. This is complemented by the possibility to visit the many castles and palaces in the old district of Waldeck, especially the residence castle in Bad Arolsen, which was built in the 18th century on the model of Versailles.

Traffic

Except for a small section of the motorway A 44 from Kassel to Dortmund in the northern part of the district near the village of Diemelstadt the county has no direct connection to the motorway network. In the southeast, however, the A49 runs close of the district. The planned closure of the gap A 4 between the western and eastern part is to pass through the southern part of the county. Until the 1970s, also was an extension of the A 5 of casting to Bremen in conversation that would have opened up the county in a north-south direction. This task is now the federal highway B 252, which connects Marburg Frankenberg, Korbach and Bad Arolsen with Warburg and Paderborn, while in the district, especially in comparison to the remainder of the Marburg- Biedenkopf, with currently only six Ortsdurchfahrten (Ernest Hausen, Bottendorf, Herzhausen, Dorfitter, Bern village and Twiste ) is relatively well developed on the entire course in a circle.

Beginning of 2013 introduced the Federal Ministry of Transport, after decades of planning to the delight of many residents funds for the construction of a B252neu available, which is a long-term deal all through-roads between Marburg and Frankenberg and thus to a relieve the population, but also ensure a better connection to Central and South Hesse and the economy is expected to benefit in the region. The project is carried out by Hesse mobile. Other major roads in the district are the B 236, which crosses Munchausen starting on Battenberg and Bromskirchen the circle, the B 251 of Kassel Waldeck- Sachsenhausen, Korbach, Willingen to Brilon, the, B 253 Bad Wildungen Frankenberg, Battenberg to Dillenburg the B 450 from Fritzlar and Wolf Hagen Bad Arolsen and the B 485 of Bad Wildungen to Bad Arolsen.

The county is represented by the railway lines Korbach - developed Wabern - Bad Arolsen - Volkmarsen with further connection direction Kassel, the route Korbach - Willingen - Brilon Wald, the route Frankenberg - Marburg and the track Bad Wildungen. It was decided that the railway line Korbach -Frankenberg to take (lower Eder train) again. Probably from autumn 2014, the section is operated runs regularly again. For this, two bridges and two tunnels will be completely renovated. Currently found between Frankenberg ( Eder) - Herzhausen in the summer months special trips to the national park center instead. Due to the strong competition from private transport the Upper Eder train from Allendorf to Bad Berleburg and the railway line Nuttlar -Frankenberg were shut down several decades ago, as well as in 1995, the Lake Eder track of Korbach to Bad Wildungen because of the need for remediation of Buhlener viaduct. On the latter there is today on parts of a bike path.

In addition to the bus service in Waldeck- Frankenberg, the call - a-ride Waldeck -Frankenberg complements the public transport. It drives like the bus from stop to stop by prior appointment.
