A forest spirit is a spirit of nature, which is located in the forest.

Forest spirits are available in a variety of forms. The European forest spirits are the elves, dryads, Meliaden and living trees as well as the Faun and the satyrs.

Even in America there are forest spirits. Thus, the Sioux know the forest spirits Canotila. Even the spirits of the Native American tribes in South and Central America are often forest spirits, which are blamed for symptoms or riddle of the wooded nature.

Even in Japan is in many stories, even ghost stories, drawn to the spirituality of nature. Often found in the Japanese fairy tale rather evil -minded spirits of the forest. Others will only be a threat if they are exhausted.

More recently, in Japan there is also a trend towards good forest spirits, such as the Kodama, which can be found in mystical -themed anime, such as the film Princess Mononoke.
