Wallaroo

The mountain kangaroos or Walla Roos are a group of three kangaroo species of the genus Macropus. Together with the Red Kangaroo, they form the subgenus Osphranter.

General

Mountain kangaroos are in size between the kangaroos and wallabies to. Is your body length (excluding tail) approximately one to 1.4 m, where the males are much larger than females. The propagation corresponds to that of the other kangaroos. After approximately 32 days gestation period is a single young is born, which remains around 8 to 9 months in bags. Even with them there is the " delayed birth".

Mountain Kangaroos are widespread and not in danger, only the black wallaroo is considered low risk.

Species

  • The ( actual ) wallaroo ( Macropus robustus ) is spread over the whole of Australia.
  • The black wallaroo (M. bernardus ) lives in the Arnhem region of the Northern Territory.
  • Throughout northern Australia we find the antelope kangaroo (M. antilopinus ). In contrast to the other mountain kangaroos live in groups.
