History

The Wallisellenstrasse station was taken on June 25, 1856 at the inauguration of the NOB - between Zurich and Winterthur Walisellen - in operation. On 1 August 1856, the Glatthalbahn Wallisellenstrasse - type has been opened in addition, which was in 1857 by the United Swiss Railways ( VSB) adopted and extended; the station thus became an important railway junction in the region. It was not until 1866, the railway department of the NOB decided to build a station building, which was performed in the same style as the station building in Amriswil, Arbon and Dietikon, designed by Jakob Friedrich Wanner.

Changes to the railway tracks and the surrounding buildings were held several times. From 1902, in the wake of the nationalization of NOB and VSB, the tracks of the two previous tracks were merged and the safety systems rebuilt; 1929, the station has been added, along with a pedestrian underpass canopies for the station platforms were created. This platform roofing had been previously installed at the entrance to the old railway station at Zurich main station and were transported here during the demolition for further use. In 1975 a large change in the reception building of the side wing on the west side of the station building was demolished and replaced by a single storey signal box with some additional operating rooms and a modern flat roof. Also on the east side of a flat roof was set. The old tower signal box was canceled.

With the opening of the airport line in 1980 Wallisellenstrasse station lost almost all express trains, as the fast trains and IC now cite the airport station. But at the same time, the regional transport Glattal took too much so that in 1985 the line Wallisellenstrasse - examination was expanded to double track. In 1990, the Zurich mountain line was taken as the core of the S -Bahn Zurich in operation, the station Wallisellenstrasse lost an even more important since the Glatt Valley line has now been approached by most S-trains on the branch Neugut and Wallisellenstrasse dealing so. The station has since been serviced by lines S8 and S14, which separate here.

From 2004, the Glattalbahn (light rail Glattal originally called, not to be confused with the former Glatthalbahn Wallisellenstrasse - type ) was between the airport Zurich and Dübendorf in three stages built as narrow gauge tram. In its third stage, it reached 2010 as the Wallisellenstrasse station. In the course of the renovation of the station, the station building, together with the pedestrian underpass and the platform roofs had a new building to make room; the station forecourt and together with the adjacent town center will be completely redesigned. The opening of the new station building with the new bus station took place on 25 February 2010, the opening of the new tram line on 12 December 2010.
