Waltendorf

Walt village is the 9th district of Graz. It lies in the east of the city on the ridge between Ragnitz and Peterstal from which the crests of the Ruckerlberg and Lustbühel excellent. The origin of the name is determined not accurate. Some believe that the name derives from " forest village", since the center was prior to the incorporation behind a forest. Others derive it from the first "settlement officer " of the Marquis, Walt Fried ago (early 12th century).

History

The Good Sparbersbach exists here since about 1100. Later it received its present name after its owner Haller castle in the 18th century, Friedrich Haller. As mentioned settlement Waltendorf the first time around 1230.

The spiritualist Maria Silbert was in the years after 1920, known as the " Visionary of Walt village".

In 1929, the market law was given and the coat of arms designed showing the Haller castle on green - silver background. 1938, the annexation to Graz, 1946, the present district boundaries were defined.

In the 1960s, here was one of the largest housing estates in Graz, the Berliner Ring, built. It is located in Ragnitztal on the border with the county Ries.
