Walter De Maria
Walter De Maria (actually Joseph Walter De Maria, born October 1, 1935 in Albany, California, † July 25, 2013 in Los Angeles ) was an American artist, an important representative of Minimalism, Conceptual Art and Land Art
Life
Walter De Maria studied from 1953 to 1959 at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in History (BA ) and Arts ( MA). In 1960 he moved to New York where he lived until his death. He was a participant of the documenta 4 in Kassel in 1968, represented in the Documenta 5 (1972) and the Documenta 6 in 1977 as an artist.
His oeuvre includes in addition to intangible works of conceptual art, sculptures, installations and works of Land Art
2001 De Maria was awarded the Roswitha Haftman price.
