Waltham Cross

Waltham Cross is the most southeasterly town in Hertfordshire in England. The place is about 20 kilometers east of the City of London just off the M 25 motorway Waltham Cross since 1974 part of the Borough of Broxbourne.

History

The place got the name part "Cross" by establishing an Eleanor Cross, erected by Edward I in memory of his late wife, Eleanor of Castile.

The poet Anthony Trollope lived 1859-1871 in Waltham Cross and wrote a number of his books here. The house of Trollope was torn down in 1936. Today, a pub stands on the site of the dwelling house.

Olympic Games 2012

Near the Waltham Town Lock the River Lea, the Lee Valley White Water Centre was built. Here, the competitions were held in the canoe slalom during the Olympic Games in 2012.
