Walther Spielmeyer

Walther Game Meyer ( born April 23, 1879 in Dessau, † 6 February 1935 Munich) was a German psychiatrist and neurologist.

Spielmeyer studied with Eduard Hitzig in Halle. In 1906 he was a lecturer in Freiburg, where he worked under Alfred Hoche.

At the suggestion of Emil Kraepelin he succeeded Alois Alzheimer as head of the Anatomical Laboratory of Psychiatric and Mental Hospital in Munich. In 1913 he became Associate Professor in 1917 and Head of Histology Department at the newly erected " German Research Institute for Psychiatry (Kaiser Wilhelm Institute ) ". With Franz Nissl he had a good working relationship.
