Wame

Region

WAME (also: Ouamé ) is a rural municipality in the Department Damagaram Takaya in Niger.

Geography

WAME lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Tanout in the north, Alakoss in the northeast, Damagaram Takaya in the east, Albarkaram in the southeast, southwest and Olléléwa Dakoussa in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 39 administrative villages, 74 traditional villages, 72 hamlets and a warehouse. The main town in the rural community is the administrative village WAME (also: Kagna WAME, Kagna Ouamé ).

History

The French colonial administration set up in the early 20th century, a canton in WAME, endorsed by the traditional seat of power (French: chefferie traditionnal ) of the neighboring village of Dakoussa was administered. 2002 emerged the rural community WAME as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the canton. Since 2011 part of the rural community not to Mirriah Department, but for the newly established Department Damagaram Takaya.

Population

At the 2001 census WAME had 23,317 inhabitants. For the year 2010 31.659 inhabitants were calculated. In WAME living members of the mainly remote pasture operated Fulbe subgroup Oudah'en.
