Wandsbek

Wandsbek is a city district of Hamburg. Composed of 18 districts and most populous, with around 411,000 inhabitants municipality located in the northeast of Hamburg. The name derives from the same district in the southwest of the district.

History

Since the law took over the district administration in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on September 21, 1949 on 11 May 1951 in force, is the district Wandsbek one of seven districts in the united community of Hamburg.

Management

District Office Wandsbek

The district office Wandsbek is since 1949 the seat of the district's administration and the district assembly of the district Wandsbek. His seat has the district office in the building built in 1929 by the famous architect Fritz Hoger Stormarn house. In addition to the District Assembly is divided into the following departments, the district office:

  • D1 Department Management and Services
  • D2 Department Civil Service
  • D3 Department Social Affairs, Youth and Health
  • D4 Department of Business, Building and Environment

Districts

Historically, in the management structure Wandsbek between the Wandsbek, the core area Wandsbek to distinguish (until 2007 ) and the district of Wandsbek.

Until 1 February 2007, the district was divided into the core area Wandsbek and four local exchange areas, managed by the district office Wandsbek and the four respective subordinate local offices of the total 18 districts:

  • The core area Wandsbek ( comprised the districts of Eilbek, Jenfeld, Marienthal, Tonndorf and Wandsbek together with about 101,800 inhabitants ) and the local exchange areas
  • Alster,
  • Bramfeld,
  • Rahlstedt and
  • Forest villages.

With the entry into force of the said district administration reform local offices were closed. In their place, customer centers, social service centers and Economic and Bauzentren were established. Due to the size Wandsbek is the only district that receives two economic and Bauzentren.
