Wang Gang (politician)

Wang Gang (Chinese王刚; * October 1942 Fuyu, Jilin Province) is a Chinese communist politician.

Study and careers in the party administration

Wang graduated from 1962 to 1967 to study philosophy at the University of Jilin. After graduating in September 1967, he was still almost a year working at the University, before he began his professional career in 1968 as an employee of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Construction. In June 1971 he became a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC ).

In 1977 he was appointed secretary of the Department of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. From there he joined in 1981 as a secretary with the rank of Department Director in the Office of Taiwan Affairs in the Central Committee ( CC). Subsequently, he was from 1985 to 1987 Deputy Director General of the Department of Communication of the Department of the Central Committee. From 1986 to 1987 he was also Deputy Director General of the Department of Communication of the Department of the State Council. 1987 to 1990 he was First Deputy Director General of each of these departments.

1990 Wang was First Deputy Director General of the Central Archives and secretary of the Department of the Central Archive of the Central Committee of the CCP.

Subsequently, he was from 1993 to 1999 director of the Central Archives and additionally from 1993 to 1994 director of the Office of the State Archives. From 1994 to 1999 he also served as Director General of the Office of the State Archives and Deputy Director of the General Department of the Central Committee. At the 15th Congress of the CPC in 1997, he was elected candidates of the Central Committee.

Ascent to the member of the Politburo

In 1999 he was appointed director of the Department of the Central Committee and also secretary of the Work Committee for Organs in the Central Committee.

As such, he was elected to the 16th Congress of the CPC in 2002 as a member of the CPC Central Committee, the members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and also a member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee. At the 17th Congress of the CPC in 2007 he was elected a member of the Politburo. In addition, since 2008 he is Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese people. In these functions, Wang was a member of the extended circle of party leadership. In November 2012, he resigned as part of the 18th Party Congress on grounds of age from all functions.
