Wang Nuea District

Amphoe Wang Nuea ( Thai อำเภอ วังเหนือ ) is the northernmost district ( Amphoe ) of the province of Lampang. The Lampang Province is located in the northern region of Thailand.

Geography

Wang Nuea lies 108 kilometers from the provincial capital of Lampang, but only 55 kilometers from the capital of the neighboring province of Phayao.

Neighboring districts are (from south-east clockwise): Amphoe Ngao which, Chae Hom and Mueang Pan of Lampang Province, Wiang Pa Pao and Phan, Chiang Rai Province, and Mae Chai and Mueang Phayao Province Phayao.

The Maenam (river) Wang flows from north to south through the county.

History

Wang Nuea was established as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) of the circle Chae Hom on May 15, 1938. At 1957, the sub-district received the full Amphoe status.

Attractions

  • Part of the Doi Luang National Park ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ดอย หลวง ) is in the county. The park stretches from Amphoe Phan, Chiang Rai Province Amphoe Mueang Phayao down to the province of Phayao.
  • The Wang Kaeo Waterfall ( Thai: น้ำตก วัง แก้ว ) is the largest of the province, it is located in the southern part of the Doi Luang National Park. The water falls over 110 steps in depth. At the highest point there are two villages of the mountain people of the Yao.

Management

The circle is divided into eight subdistricts (tambon ), which are divided further into 77 villages ( Muban ).

In addition, there are eight " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
