Wang Yuan (mathematician)

Yuan Wang ( born April 29, 1930 in Zhejiang Province ) is a Chinese number theorist.

Wang was the son of the governor of Lanxi, who was secretary of the Academia Sinica in the 1940s. Wang studied 1949-1952 Mathematics at Zhejiang University in Jian Gong Chen and Bu Qing Su. After that he was in number theory group of Hua Luogeng at the Institute of Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he became Professor in 1978 and was from 1984 to 1987 director of the mathematics department.

He made ​​important contributions in number theory to the perimeter of the Goldbach conjecture in Diophantine approximation and the theory of uniform distribution as well as in mathematical statistics.

In 1980 he became a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was awarded with Chengdong Pan and Chen Jingrun the National Science Award of China First Class. 1988 to 1992 he was President of the Chinese Mathematical Society, whose Hua price he received.
