Wanstead tube station

Wanstead is an underground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Redbridge. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 4 at the Eastern Avenue ( A12). In the year 2011 there were 2.57 million passengers these from the Central Line station.

The construction of the station began in the late 1930s, but had to be interrupted because of the Second World War. The already completed tunnel between Leytonstone and Newbury Park served for some years as an underground factory for aircraft parts of the Plessey Group; a rail freight company with a track width of 457 mm combined the departments together. After the war they removed the industrial plant and continued the construction of the underground railway. The station, designed by Charles Holden entrance building was opened on 14 December 1947.
