Wappingers Falls is a village in Dutchess County in the U.S. state of New York. In 2000, the city had 4929 inhabitants. The name is derived from the tribe of the Wappinger, the east of the Hudson River lived before the white settlers in the area.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.1 km ², of which 3.0 km ² of land and 0.2 km ² omitted ( = 4.96 %) to water.
The Village is divided by the Wappinger Creek; the area south of it belongs to the Town of Wappinger and the remaining third in the north of the village is part of the Town of Poughkeepsie.

U.S. Highway 9 runs through the town, as well as New York State Route 9D.
History
The area of Wappinger Falls was part of the Rombout Patent, which was acquired in 1685 by Francis Rombout and included the southern part of Dutchess County. The area of the Town of Wappinger was founded in 1659, and in 1781 the southern part of the village to the Wappinger Creek was incorporated.
The local waterfall was for the initial industrial development of meaning. From the past the village bear witness of Wappingers Falls Historic District and other historic buildings that are registered in the National Register of Historic Places.
Architecture
At the corner of Church Street and West Main Street is the last remaining building of the Second Empire with the Bain Commercial Building (1984 entered in the National Register of Historic Places ).
Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, there were 4929 people Wappingers Falls. The population density was 1669.4 people per km ². There were 2119 housing units at an average 717.7 per km ². The population of the Village was composed of 82.02 % White, 5.98 % African American, 0.26 % Native American, 3.04% Asian, 5.64 % reported from other races, and 3.04% from two or more races. 15.05 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Wappingers Falls distributed to 1980 households out of which 31.8% were living in children under 18 years. 40.5% married couples living together, 14.8 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.8 % were non-families. 31.9 % of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 11.6 % of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size is 3.11.
The Village population was spread out with 24.4 % under the, 10.0% 18-24 year olds, 33.2 % 25 -44- year-old, 19.3% 45-64 year olds and 13.1 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women, 89.3 men.
