Warmenau

The Warmenau is a right tributary of the Else in northeastern German state of North Rhine -Westphalia on the border of Lower Saxony.

Geography

The lake has a total length of 18.5 km. The catchment area extends over the Low Saxon / North Rhine-Westphalia border area between the Teutoburg Forest and Else in the Ravens Mulde. The body of water rises near Werther at the southern edge of the Teutoburg Forest, near the source of Schwarzenbach and flows into the awl Else ( river kilometer 15.5 ). On one part of its course northwards Warmenau forms the border between the two German states. At river kilometer 7.5 the Warmenau flows past the Good Warmenau and feeds the moat. Upriver is New Churches ( Melle ) on the Warmenau also the Koenigsbrueck castle.

The water flows through on its way from the source to the mouth of the following municipalities:

  • Werther Haeger
  • Melle- New Churches
  • Spengemann
  • Frets

On his way, the water takes downriver considered the following waters on:

  • Ditch Voßheide ( 13.5 L )
  • Wissmann Bach ( 10.7 L )
  • Hobebach (L, 9.7 )
  • Krumkebach ( 7.9 L )
  • Spengerwirt mill creek (R, 5.2 )
  • Eselsbach (R, 4.9 )

History

The Warmenau marked 1807-1811 the border between France and the Kingdom of Westphalia and was a long time before and after the state border between the Kingdom of Hanover and the Prince-Bishopric of Osnabrück and Prussia.

Environment

The Warmenau flows through or touches the following protected areas:

  • Nature reserve Warmenau: This approximately 27 -acre area with the number RF -014 in Spengenberg is reported since 1 July 1989. It is a natural floodplain in the surface portions Mart mill and train field in the valley of the meandering Warmenau which is cut here up to 2 m deep in the countryside. In wet grassland along the river there is a small pond.
  • The nature reserve doors bush lies about 7 km further upstream also Spengemann. It is also reported since 1989 and has a size of approximately 30 acres. The Valley of Warmenau is pronounced here as a typical for the Ravens Berger country Siek near Bardüttingdorf. The Siek includes not only fertile-woods ( alder ), wetlands and green meadows several more flowing and standing waters, and to the valley slopes beech forests. The dewatered in the Warmenau smaller rivers flow into natural V-shaped valleys that have not been redesigned to Siek. In the nature reserve doors bush came as the only place in the district of Herford tree frog before.
