Washington is a small town and the administrative seat of Washington County in the southeast of the U.S. state of Iowa. In 2000, Washington had 7,047 inhabitants.

Geography

Washington is located at 41 ° 18'00 " north latitude and 91 ° 41'21 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 12.6 km ², which consist exclusively of land area.

History

Washington was founded in 1839. To mark its centenary, a fountain was inaugurated, which has been overhauled in 1995.

In Washington became the first County Hospital (English about: District Hospital ) west of the Mississippi River. It was founded in 1912 as Washington County Hospital and Washington County Hospital since 1998 & Clinics is called ( WCHC ). 2006, despite many objections, the original three -storey building was demolished to build a new hospital.
