Washington Tais

Washington Tais Eduardo Bidegain ( born December 21, 1972 in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan football player.

Club career

Washington Tais played at the beginning of his career in 1992 with Peñarol in his hometown of Montevideo. Until 1997, he won the Aurinegros five league titles in five years and played alongside players like Pablo Bengoechea. After this successful time Tais moved in 1997 to the Spanish side Racing Santander. There he played until 2001 with his team in the Primera División. After relegation to the second division, he left the club and joined the newly promoted Betis Sevilla. At Real Betis he played together with famous footballers like Joaquin Alfonso or Denílson. In the very first season reached Washington Tais with his team on the 6th place in the table and thus qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2002/ 03. There you reached at least the second round and then dropped out against AJ Auxerre from France. In his final season at Betis Sevilla the crew of the Uruguayan was able to win the fourth place in the table and for the first time to participate in the UEFA Champions League. Washington Tais no longer played there, however, and ended his career after the season as an active football player. Besides the good table placement, the Copa del Rey, the club could also win in 2005.

In January 2011, the now 38 -year-old defender returned after interim career end for Clausura 2011 back to the business of football and signed a contract with the first division club Danubio FC. He was then for the seasons 2010/11 and 2011/12 Liga to a total of 30 missions in La Liga, where he scored one goal. Only twice he was not in the starting lineup. During his club had occupied in the Clausura 2011 the third and last place, only three other teams in the league more goals had recorded, he reached the second place in the Torneo Apertura with his club in 2011. Danubio missed with only a point to qualify for the championship playoffs. With only eight goals conceded in 15 games, they also presented the surest defense. By season's end of season 2011/2012 Danubio Tais contract but not prolonged.

In September 2012, the "el Negro" called Tais moved to second division club CS Miramar Misiones, where he plays since then.

National

Tais participated with the Uruguayan U -20 team at the U-20 South American Championship in 1991 and finished with the team's third tournament rank. In the same year he played with the Celeste also the Junior World Cup in 1991, when he retired but already with the team in the group stage. From his debut on 18 January 1995 until his last mission on 13 February 2002 graduated from Washington Tais 18 matches ( no goals ) for the Uruguayan national football team. With the Football World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea, however, he was not part of the squad. At the Junior World Cup 1991, he belonged to the junior selection of his country.
