Wasting syndrome

Under the classical wasting syndrome is an unintentional weight loss of at least 10 % of initial body weight that occurs with persistent diarrhea and / or fever and is not caused by an infection. The wasting syndrome is one of the so-called AIDS ( Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome ).

Etiology

When genuine wasting syndrome, in which a cachexia (if tumor- induced cachexia then ) and a weight loss by so-called opportunistic infections is impossible to find themselves the causes usually malabsorption, malnutrition and hypogonadism.
