Waterfowl

As waterfowl different birds from not more closely related to each other are groups which are often found floating on or in the water and to have adaptations, such as webbed feet:

  • The ducks and geese other birds (see also water fowl )
  • The grebes
  • The loons
  • Rail some birds such as coots
  • Pelecaniformes as pelicans, cormorants and darters
  • The ( to the wading birds belonging ) Wassertreter
  • The penguins

Also seabirds such as the alkene, Procellariiformes, boobies, frigate and tropic birds and shorebirds such as gulls and terns have webbed feet and are good swimmers, although they are not usually referred to as water birds.
