Wayne County (Georgia)
The Wayne County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jesup.
Geography
The County is located in southeastern Georgia, is in the southeast about 40 km from the Atlantic Ocean and to the south about 80 miles from Florida. It has an area of 1680 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Long County, McIntosh County, Glynn County, Brantley County, Pierce County, Appling County, Tattnall County and.
History
Wayne County was formed on May 11, 1803 28 County of Georgia from the country of the Creek Indians. It was named after General Anthony Wayne.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Wayne County 26,565 people in 9,324 households and 6,937 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 76.73 percent White, 20.32 percent Black or African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 0.44 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.31 percent from other races groups; 0.95 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.81 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 9,324 households out of which 35.9 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.5 percent were married couples living together, 14.0 percent were single mothers and 25.6 percent were non-families. 22.6 percent of all households and 9.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.06.
25.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.6 percent between 18 to 24, 30.7 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.4 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 108.4 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 32,766, and the median income for a family $ 39,442. Males have a median income of $ 31,977, women $ 19,551. The per capita income was $ 15,628. 13.4 percent of families and 16.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
