Two coffins on order ( original title: A ciascuno il suo ) is an Italian crime film / political thriller directed by Elio Petri 's 1967 with Gian Maria Volonte and Irene Papas in the leading roles, after the novel by Leonardo Sciascia

Action

The death threats against the local pharmacist Arturo Manno surprise any of his friends, as this city is known as Casanova. Really seriously they do not take this however until Manno, together with his friend Dr.Antonio Roscio to be assassinated while hunting in the early morning. Suspicion falls on the father and two brothers of a minor, a relationship is supposed to have had with the Manno. However, Professor Laurana, who had previously seen one of the ransom notes, does not believe in the guilt of illiterates from a run-down district, as the letters of the text were cut out of the " Osservatore Romano " - a Christian newspaper, which has few subscribers in this area.

He asks the lawyer friend Rosello therefore, to take care of the prisoners, and begin your own research, also motivated by his secret love to the widow of the murdered - Luisa Roscio. His trail leads him to Palermo, but he remembers neither that Luisa Roscio his feelings are not reciprocated, nor push his detective work in to some incomprehension. The dissipation by Luisa he survived only briefly, because he is murdered and his body disappears. The life in his native village continues unchanged, supported by the close relationship between Luisa Roscio and the lawyer Rosello.

Background

Two coffins on order ( A ciascuno al suo ) was the first film based on a novel by Leonardo Sciascia and plays in Sicily, Sciascia's home. 1976 yet was followed by a further cooperation between Elio Petri and Leonardo Sciascia in Todo modo. Together with the film adaptations of another of his novels, The Day of the Owl by Damiano Damiani 1968, whose book template was created before A ciascuno al suo, and The Power and the price of Francesco Rosi in 1976, a complex picture of the Italian political situation in the 60 showed and 70s.
