Web Based Enterprise Management

Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM ) is a collective term for a set of standard functions for administration and remote maintenance of computer systems in managed environments. WBEM has been specified by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF ) and is independent of the hardware platform and the operating system.

Core functionalities

  • WBEM protocols (CIM - XML, WS- CIM, CLP -SSH, ...)
  • WBEM infrastructure ( operations, events, query language, ...)
  • Common Information Model (CIM) CIM schema (models, classes, properties, methods, ...): Standardized modeling of all persons targeted by the WBEM elements ( managed objects ).
  • CIM infrastructure (meta- schema, rules, MOF, ...): Rules for integration of access to other management models in CIM, such as DMI, SMBIOS, or SNMP.

There are various WBEM implementations and various CIM implementations, such as Windows Management Instrumentation ( WMI). Administrative instruments of different manufacturers rely on it.
