Web.com Tour

The Web.com Tour is the second- strung ( second level ) tournament series of the North American PGA TOUR for male professional golfers. Was first established under the name Satellite Tour.

History

The former Satellite tour was taken over in 1990 by the PGA TOUR and was originally named in honor of the Ben Hogan Tour Golf size. There were 30 tournaments with a usual prize money of $ 100,000. Later this tour was named after the respective sponsors Nike Tour, Buy.com Tour and Nationwide Tour and is the name of the series since June 2012 for the next 10 years after the resident of Jacksonville, Florida Internet company Web.com Group, Inc..

Tournaments

In the 2012 season, 27 tournaments were held, four outside the U.S. ( Colombia, Panama, Chile and Mexico). The prize money tournaments of the equipment moves between 500,000 and 1,000.000 $ per event and is about one-tenth the level of the PGA TOUR. Otherwise the same competition conditions apply as for the top tour, so stroke play over four days and 72 holes, with a cut after 36 holes. The field covers 144 or 156 players, the winner gets - as in the PGA TOUR - 18 % of the total market.

Qualification mode

Since this tour a second- strung - second level - is you can qualify for the top level PGA TOUR here. The first 20 of the rankings acquire a ( partially restricted ) eligible to play for the next season of the PGA TOUR. If a player wins three tournaments in one season, he is eligible to start for the PGA TOUR after the third win immediately. In the majors and some other big tournaments, or invitation tournaments ( Invitational ) but own qualification criteria apply.

For the Web.com tour itself you qualify via the so-called qualifying school, not to be confused with the Q- School, about which one can get the eligibility for the main tour in three stages.
