WEB

Web (proper spelling WEB ) is a programming language developed by Donald Knuth. It puts into practice the idea of " literate programming", that program code and documentation are included in a file.

The web system basically consists of two programs:

  • Tangle generates a Pascal file from the web source file,

Web is based on Pascal. It also variants have been developed that are based on other programming languages. Nevertheless, the popularity of web always remained low.

In the Java programming language has this idea taken up easily modified and so provides a way to write directly in the source code documentation through special comments. The contained in the Java Development Kit javadoc program evaluates these comments and created from the Quellextkommentaren HTML documentation.

Since the early 1990s, a newer version of Web named CWEB, which was written in the C programming language exists.
