Geographical Location

Weinbach is situated on the Lahn and the Weil between Wetzlar and Limburg an der Lahn.

Neighboring communities

Weinbach is bordered to the north by the town of Weilburg, in the east and south on the community Weilmunster, and in the west on the community of Villmar and the city Runkel (all in Limburg- Weilburg ).

Structure

Weinbach consists of the nucleus Weinbach and the municipal districts Bless Bach, Edelberg, Elkerhausen, Freienfels, Fürfurt and Gräveneck.

History

As the first district Fürfurt was mentioned in a document that was created 1148-1154. The first mention of Elkerhausen dated 1191st The resident knights in the 14th century was in a serious feud with the country gentlemen, the Archbishop of Trier. The Elkerhauser water castle was destroyed in 1352. In 1500, first created a feast house, from which developed a new castle.

1246 Edelberg was 1267 Bless Bach and 1344 Weinbach first mentioned. The Freienfels castle was around 1300, probably built by the Diezer sidelines Weilnau. In 1327 it was first mentioned. The Gräveneck castle was built in 1395 by a Knight Alliance under the leadership of the House of Nassau against the Knights of Elkerhausen.

Today's Evangelical Church in Weinbach was established in 1728, the early Gothic choir of the original church was built.

Incorporations

The history of the greater community Weinbach begins on 1 December 1970 when merged the formerly independent communities Weinbach, Bless Bach, Freienfels and Gräveneck in the course of municipal reform in Hesse. On 1 July 1974, the municipalities Edelberg and Elkerhausen were incorporated.

Weinbach maintains since 1992 partnerships with the Polish community Debrzno in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Since 2005 there is also a partnership with the community Blatno in the Czech Republic.

Traffic

Weinbach is connected via the federal highway 456 to the trunk road network. For the Lahntalbahn there are railway stations in the districts Gräveneck and Fürfurt.

Until 1969, also had the current district Freienfels about today disused Because Valley Railway connection to the rail network.
