Weistrach is a municipality with 2186 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Amstetten district in the Austrian state of Lower Austria.

Weistrach is in the Most district in Lower Austria. 16.48 % of the area of the municipality is forested.

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria.

Population Development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 2,197 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 2,113 inhabitants in 1981 and 2,017 in 1971, 1,952 inhabitants.

Policy

The council has 21 seats, mayor of the municipality is Erwin Pitter Berger, chief officer Josef Payrleitner.

In the municipal elections of 2005, the ÖVP reached 17, the SPÖ and the FPÖ 3 1 mandate. In the municipal elections of 2010, the Social Democrats lost one seat to the ÖVP.

Culture and sights

  • Parish Weistrach with a nave in 1520, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture.
