Welthungerhilfe

The German Welthungerhilfe eV, short Welthungerhilfe is a denominationally and politically independent, non-profit and non-governmental organization for development cooperation and emergency aid. Since its foundation in 1962 it has around 2.52 billion euros performed over 7000 aid projects in 70 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Welthungerhilfe carries the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues ( DZI). 2012 celebrated its fiftieth anniversary Welthungerhilfe.

Goals and Principles

Welthungerhilfe has set itself the goal of creating famine and poverty from the world. According to the basic principle to help themselves, it supports cooperation with local partner organizations, people here in developing countries to overcome hunger and poverty and sustainable supply.

History

Welthungerhilfe was founded in 1962 on the initiative of the then Federal President Heinrich Lübke as German Committee for the fight against hunger. Structure

Since its inception, the respective Federal President is the patron of the organization. In 2008, the club announced a new management structure. President of Welthungerhilfe was the former mayor of Bonn Bärbel Dieckmann in November 2008; her deputy director of the Center for Development Research (ZEF ), University of Bonn Prof. Dr. Joachim von Braun. Financing

Despite a rapidly growing private donation volume from the population (2012: 37.5 million euros ), Welthungerhilfe funds its work continued mostly from government grants (2012: EUR 107.5 million ). Activities

In addition to the immediate disaster relief Welthungerhilfe people in developing countries supported mainly in the fields of rural development and food security. Volunteers support the Welthungerhilfe with events where donations for the relief projects will be born.
