History

Although the route already existed since 1880, but the station was first built and subsequently opened by the Metropolitan Railway ( predecessor company of the Metropolitan Line) on 14 October 1893. The object of the station was the development of the built by the Metropolitan Railway leisure facilities. These were located in Wembley Park, a former country house, which the railway company had acquired in 1881.

First the trains stopped only on Saturdays, when at Wembley held football matches, from May 12, 1894 on all the other days. 1899 opened the Great Central Railway parallel tracks, but at the station never stopped trains of the railway. In 1905 the subway tracks were electrified. Between 1913 and 1915, the Metropolitan Railway laid a second double-track to increase the capacity of the route. On December 10, 1932, they opened a branch line to Stanmore.

Originally, the Metropolitan Railway Station, all served south of Wembley Park to Baker Street, but came across the track to their capacity limits, as it had at its southern end, only two instead of four tracks. After the integration of society in the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933, the new public company built additional tunnel the Bakerloo Line to connect this to the south of Finchley Road with the tracks of the Metropolitan Line. On November 20, 1939, the features of the Bakerloo Line took over the local traffic, while the Metropolitan Line converted to an express line. The Bakerloo Line, in turn, was replaced on 1 May 1979, the newly opened Jubilee Line. During the construction of Wembley Stadium and the metro station was replaced by a new structure in order to cope with the crowds better.

Operation

The station currently has six tracks of the London Underground. Those of the Jubilee Line are located in the middle, flanked by the local and express tracks of the Metropolitan Line. Express trains stop only at off-peak time. Partly trains on the Jubilee Line have their terminus here, and, for this purpose a turning track between the track rails at the north end of the station.
