Wendo Kolosoy

Antoine Wendo Kolosoy ( born April 25, 1925 in the region of Bandundu, † July 28, 2008 in Kinshasa ), known as Papa Wendo, was a Congolese musician. He was considered the "father" of Congolese rumba music.

Life

At the age of nine years Wendo was an orphan. He came into the care of the Church, which he felt was too strict, so he left him three years later educating priests. First Wendo worked as a boxer until he began recording music in 1948. During this time he used friendships among other Patrice Lumumba. A wide audience was Wendo titled Marie Louise known, although the Catholic Church Wendo criticized for the text. Wendo took for the freedom of his music even a short prison sentence in purchasing. Wendo died after a long illness at the age of 83 years at a clinic in Kinshasa.
