Werner Klingler

Karl Adolf Kurt Werner Klingler ( born October 23, 1903 in Stuttgart, † June 23, 1972 in Berlin) was a German actor, director and screenwriter. Werner Klingler is an unbroken artistic transition from the Weimar Republic on the time of National Socialism through to post-war Germany. In the years 1936-1967 Klingler has directed nearly 30 films.

Life

He started as a bit player at various theaters and came in the twenties to America, where the German-speaking theater of Milwaukee he appeared in 1925. In 1927 he tried his luck as a film actor in Hollywood and worked with unnamed in several productions, including in the classic on the Western Front.

In 1931 he was consultant for German needs of the production company Universal Studios, where he met Luis Trenker know who just turned an American version of mountains in flames. Klingler gave up his very promising acting career and returned with Trenker returned to Europe, where he served as general factotum at the Trenker film Rebel. Shortly thereafter, he was responsible for the sound design of the 1932 adventure film SOS Eisberg.

His directorial debut Deluge remained unfinished because of censorship problems, but with the initial help Trenker, who made him twice to his co-director, he was finally reach several action-packed productions, including the propaganda film sheet lightning to Barbara (1941 ) and the completion of the anti -British production Titanic ( 1943).

After his first two post-war directorial work in the Federal Republic, Klingler was again as an actor in the United States, where he remained until the mid-fifties. Back in Germany, he was again used for a variety of directed tasks.
