Werner Kutzelnigg

Werner Kutzelnigg ( born September 10, 1933, Vienna ) is a German theoretical chemist and professor emeritus of the University of Bochum.

Life

Werner Kutzelnigg studied chemistry in Bonn and Freiburg and received his doctorate with the experimental work studies on the assignment of the normal vibrations and elucidation of the structure of organic ion 1960. Then he turned to the theoretical chemistry and was 1960-1963 Postdoc with Bernard Pullman and Gaston Berthier in Paris and from 1963 to 1964 when Per- Olov Löwdin at Uppsala University. 1967 Kutzelnigg habilitated at the University of Göttingen. From 1970 to 1973 he was a professor at the University of Karlsruhe and then from 1973 until his retirement in 1998 full professor at the Department of Theoretical Chemistry at the Ruhr- University Bochum.

Kutzelnigg published about 250 scientific papers on various topics of quantum chemistry: methods of treatment of electron correlation, magnetic properties of molecules (especially chemical shift ), relativistic quantum chemistry, theory of chemical bonding and theory of intermolecular forces.

Kutzelnigg was also known for his standard work Introduction to theoretical chemistry.
