Werner Uebelmann

Werner J. Uebelmann ( born March 16, 1921 in Aarau, † March 1, 2014 in Muri ) was a Swiss cactus dealers and collectors.

Life

Werner J. Uebelmann founded in the 1960s, the Su- Ka -Flor Ltd, specialize in the import, breeding and sale of cacti. Office were Zurich, later Wohlen AG and finally Sarmenstorf. He engaged with other Brazilian Leopoldo Horst to collect cacti and other succulents in South America and especially in Brazil. The finds are recorded with field numbers in named after Horst and Uebelmann HU directory. He also undertook even more extensive collecting trips.

After Uebelmann named taxa

To him, the genus was named in honor Uebelmannia.

Werner Uebelmann in honor of several cactus species have been named, as for example: Parodia werneri, Tacinga werneri or Gymnocalycium uebelmannianum.
