Wes McLeod

Wes McLeod ( born October 24, 1957 in Vancouver ) is a retired Canadian soccer player.

Career

McLeod played in the adult range for the Canadian clubs Coquitlam Blue Mountain and Vancouver Italia before he signed a professional contract in 1977 in the North American Soccer League ( NASL ) for the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Twice he reached with Tampa Bay the championship final, the so-called Soccer Bowl, but was defeated in both finals with his team. Until the dissolution of the NASL in 1984, McLeod had played 188 league matches and scored 34 goals to further 23 events (9 goals ), he brought it into the play-off rounds.

Following the dissolution of the League itself McLeod turned to the popular North American Indoor Soccer, with whom he already came during his time with Tampa in touch. He first played for New York Cosmos in the Major Indoor Soccer League ( MISL ), after the team had but still due to low viewing figures withdrew from the league during the season, he joined the Dallas Sidekicks, for he held until his retirement in late 1992 was active. In 1987, he won the championship title with Dallas the MISL, he was appointed to the All-Star team, while in 1990 he received the award for best defensive player in the league in 1989. During his time with Dallas, he graduated in operating a total of 367 league games and scored 84 goals. National

1975 McLeod made ​​his debut at age 17 for the Canadian Olympic team. The following year, he was one of the Olympic football tournament for the Canadian squad and came in the two preliminary round defeats against the Soviet Union and North Korea to use. At his first appearance in an official senior international McLeod came in October 1976 as part of the qualification for the 1978 World Cup against Mexico.
