Weser-Ems

The county Weser -Ems was one of four administrative regions of Lower Saxony.

He was re-formed in 1978 by the union of 1946 formed within the State of Lower Saxony government districts of Aurich and Osnabrück with the also formed in 1946 from the former Free State of Oldenburg Oldenburg County and had its administrative headquarters in Oldenburg ( Oldenburg). The authority of the district was the district Weser -Ems, her head of agency, a government minister. The district government had its head office in Oldenburg ministry buildings; their offices in Osnabrück and Aurich were in the earlier buildings occupied by the local government minister.

On January 1, 2005, all administrative regions of Lower Saxony were abolished and their district governments, as the authorities dissolved. By decision of the state government, there were in Oldenburg from 2005, a government agency that was in 2014 replaced by regional commissioner for the territory of the former government district.

Today's counties had been formed by the local government reform, which was carried out in Lower Saxony essentially 1973-1977. Most counties existed before the district reform. However, they had then partly still another cut.

On January 1, 1980, the district Witt mouth was rebuilt. The counties Ammer Country and Friesland were attributed to the cutting area of 31 July 1977.

On 1 July 1993, the district of Oldenburg ( Oldenburg) lost his addition was called the district of Oldenburg.

After the separation from government President parts in March 2003, the Office was not filled; until its dissolution on 31 December 2004, the district government Weser -Ems was led by Government Vice President Dieter Boll.
