Wesley So

Wesley So (born 9 October 1993 in Manila ) is a Filipino chess grandmaster.

Wesley So learned chess at the age of 6 years by his father. In 2006, he became the youngest member of the national men's team and took at the age of 12 years participated in the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin (Italy). In December of the same year he also became the youngest National Open Chess Champion.

At the age of 12 years and 10 months, he became the youngest Filipino International Master. At the age of 14 years, 1 month and 28 days, he reached the grandmaster title, making it the seventh- youngest person in chess history, which reached this item. He was considered the strongest U-16 players in the world.

In October 2008, he reached an Elo rating of 2610, making him the youngest player in history, to break the 2600 Elo mark. His successor was Hou Yifan, the youngest for a few months (men ) grandmaster ever was.
