West Grinstead

West Grinstead is a municipality in the district of Horsham in West Sussex, England. It is located approximately six kilometers northwest of Henfield. The River Adur runs through the municipality.

History

In the western municipality is the former motte Knepp Castle, which was built around 1100 by William de Braose, 1st Baron Braose or of his son Philip. In 1214 King John expanded the castle to another floor and fastened the entire system. During the Battle of Knepp between King John son of Henry and rebellious farmers in the region, the castle was completely destroyed. King John, who himself was not present during the battle, returned later and took revenge on the rebels.

Attractions

The parish church of " St. George " was built around 1100 and is a church of the Anglican parish of West Grinstead. In addition, there is the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, "one built in 1876 church, which is used by the Roman Catholic church.

In addition, the bike path Downs Link offers good hiking opportunities through the South Downs.
