West Pier

The West Pier is a former pier (English paper) in Brighton, England. It was built in 1866 by Eugenius Birch, after two fires and several storms it is no longer usable.

The pier of a cast iron construction initially consisted of three parts, which were connected by a bridge: a small pavilion, a concert hall and the large pavilion with a theater hall, which was completed in 1893.

In 1975, the pier was closed for renovations due, but were slow to place. During a storm surge on 29 December 2002, the bridge collapsed, two of the axes are drowned in the sea. On 28 March 2003 broke into the pavilion from a fire that could not be deleted because the fire department could not reach the platform of the pier. A fire on May 11, 2003 damaged the concert hall collapsed during a storm on 23 June 2004 in it.

In the spring of 2006, the West Pier Trust announced the reconstruction of the West Pier, which should be supplemented by an observation tower of 183 meters. The project was abandoned due to high construction costs. Through a storm in February 2014, the skeleton was badly damaged and split in two.
