Westerbork (village)

Westerbork is a village in the Dutch municipality of Midden- Drenthe, Drenthe province.

About 7 kilometers north of the community was in the time of National Socialism the transit camp Westerbork, a concentration camp transit camp, were deported from which over 100,000 Jews and Gypsies in the concentration camps. Among these also was Anne Frank. The camp was already set in the time before the German invasion - originally as a detention center for Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany in order to help those with a temporary shelter, water and food can. Radio Telescope

In the near Westerbork is the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope ( WSRT ), a consisting of fourteen 25 -meter movable dish antennas radio interferometer for astronomical observations in the wavelength range of 3.6 to 110 cm. Of these radio telescopes ten antennas are securely mounted, while two can be moved at the eastern end of the array on rails. 1.4 km east of it there is a second pair of movable bowls.
