Westerhoven is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It belongs to the municipality Bergeijk and is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Eindhoven. The town currently has 2,085 inhabitants.

History

In the area around Westerhoven more than 10,000 years old were Stern tools found, suggesting that the region was inhabited from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages.

1331 allowed Duke Johann III. of the inhabitants of Brabant Westerhoven the agricultural use of the Heath. Emperor Charles V confirmed this right in 1544th By the end of the 18th century the heath was used by the villagers.

1468 Before Westerhoven subordinate to the City Council Eersel, whose members were appointed by the Duke of Brabant. After Charles the Bold granted the place Bergeijk free councilors and Westerhoven has now among other villages assigned to the Council of Bergeijk administratively.

From 1810 to 1 January 1997 Westerhoven was an independent municipality, then it was together with the villages Riethoven and Luyksgestel part of the community Bergeijk. At the time of merging the town had 1,822 inhabitants Westerhoven.

Tourism

In Westerhoven is the belonging to Center Parcs leisure park De Kempervennen, which was built in 1983 in place of the former Parks euro beach.
