Common tree hyrax ( Dendrohyrax dorsalis)

The common tree hyrax ( Dendrohyrax dorsalis) is a species of tree hyraxes within the mammalian order of the hyrax.

Features

The common tree hyrax reaches a body length of 45 to 60 centimeters, with a short tail 10 to 30 millimeters in length. The coat is gray and in contrast to the steppe forest tree hyrax ( Dendrohyrax arboreus ), he has a short and coarse hair. Under the chin is a white spot and the nose is hairless. On the back there is a conspicuous yellowish- white spot with a hairless body 42-72 millimeters in length.

Dissemination

The distribution area of the commons Baumschliefers includes parts of West and Central Africa from Sierra Leone to northern Uganda and south to northern Angola and the north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

As a preferred habitat type moist forests and savanna areas in the lowlands, but it can be found at altitudes of 3,500 meters in the mountains.

Threat and protection

The species is " not endangered " by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources ( IUCN) due to the large distribution area and population size estimated ( Least concern ). A decline in inventories and a greater threat to the species are not known.
