Wetar Strait

Geographical location

The road from Wetar is a strait in the Malay Archipelago. It separates the island Wetar in the north of the island of Timor in the south. In the west, the island of Atauro, behind the street from Ombai is. To the northwest lies the Banda Sea. To the east, beyond the island Kisar, lies the Timor Sea. At its narrowest point the road is 36 km wide.

Just five kilometers from the northern coast of Timor coat of the seabed from a depth of 1,000 m. During the Cold War, therefore, could pass undetected in the streets of Ombai and Wetar American nuclear submarines.
