The weather stone peaks in Wettersteingebirge are the easternmost foothills of the weather stone main ridge which tapers from the Meilerhütte east on Mittenwald. They are formed from the Upper Wettersteinspitze ( 2298 m ) in the west and the Lower Wettersteinspitze (also Gemskopf ) ( 2151 m) in the east. Over the two peaks is the boundary between Germany and Austria.

From the middle of the forest, the trail to the Upper Wettersteinspitze leads past Lautersee and Ferchensee. West of the lake the trail begins Ferch 875, on which it goes towards the southwest of the saddle Gemsanger. Here some rock sections are covered with wire ropes. From there, the marked trail continues to the summit.
