Wettstein is a Swiss surname and is originally from the Rumlikon in the Zurich Oberland. The name originally comes from the whetstone Wettstein, were ground with a knife and scythes. In Basel is the Wettstein bridge and the Wettsteinquartier, both of which are named after former Mayor of Basel Johann Rudolf Wettstein.
