Wexford County, Michigan

Wexford County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cadillac.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the west about 45 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, away and has an area of ​​1491 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grand Traverse County, Missaukee County, Osceola County, Lake County and Manistee County.

History

Wexford County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. Until 1843 it was called Kautawaubert County. It was named for the County Wexford in Ireland.
