Geography

Weyarn is located East of the Mangfalltal on the northern edge of the Alps. At the eastern edge of the community reservoir is Seehamer lake. The natural drainage of Seehamer lake, moss creek runs through the municipality of Weyarn to its mouth in the Mangfall.

Weyarn is conveniently located right off the highway 8 about 38 km southeast of the city of Munich, nine kilometers from wooden churches and Mies Bach, 22 km from Bad Aibling and 32 km from Rosenheim. The church formerly possessed its own railway station on the railway wooden church in the village of Schliersee Unterthalham, but this was abandoned several years ago. Since then the three kilometers away Darching ( belonging to Valley ), the nearest train station, by the Bayerische Oberland Bahn on the route Munich - Bavarian Zell is operated by the hour - wooden churches.

History

1133 by Graf von Falkenstein Siboto the founding of the Augustinian Canons Monastery in Weyarn, which ( from the Latin: cella Vivaria = fish pond ) from the original castle Viare from the 11th century emerged.

On 1 May 1978, the municipality Wattersdorf has been increased by the then independent municipality Holzolling as well as parts of the disbanded community Gotzing and the neighboring village of Deer Mountain. The following day, May 2, 1978 the name of the community was officially changed in Weyarn.

In 2000, Bavaria was the village of Weyarn represented in global project in 2000 at the World Exhibition EXPO 2000.

Culture and sights

The main attraction is the former Augustinian Abbey in the 12th century. From the dissolved after the secularization monastery today is still the former collegiate church of St. Peter and Paul receive.

The church was built from 1687 to 1693 by Lorenzo Sciasca from Roveredo in the Baroque style. Are well recognized for its carved figures of Ignaz Günther ( Annunciation, Lamentation of Christ, the Immaculate Conception ), also stucco and frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmermann. The church and the remains of the monastery are now the headquarters of the German brothers province of the Teutonic Order.

In the municipality there are two section fortifications: The Fentbach hill from the late La Tène period and the Birg for small height churches from the time of the invasions of the Hungarians.
