Whataya Want from Me

Whataya Want from Me is a song by the American pop singer Adam Lambert. It was released on the debut album For Your Entertainment and was released as the second single from the album. Whataya Want from Me was written in collaboration by Pink, Max Martin and Shellback.

Formation

Whataya Want from Me was actually written and recorded for Pink's fifth album Funhouse, but eventually did not come on the album. On 18 November 2009 Adam Lambert announced on his website that will be released as the second single from the debut album Whataya Want from Me. Thus, the second single was announced before the CD was released.

The release was followed by an extensive promotional campaign in which the song was presented in many major American television shows, including the Late Show with David Letterman on 25 November 2009, the The Ellen DeGeneres Show on December 1, the Tonight Show with Conan O ' Brien on December 14th and the the Jay Leno Show on December 21 of the year. On 20 January 2010 was followed by a performance at The Oprah Winfrey Show. In April and May 2010, the song was promoted internationally, such as in Finland, the UK, Switzerland and Germany. It was recorded by Max Martin and Shellback at Maratone Studios, Stockholm ( Sweden); with Al Clay at the House Of Blues Studios, Los Angeles, CA; by Ann Mincieli the German Studios, NYC. Assisted by Chris Galland and Doug Tyo ( House of Blues ); Christian Baker (German Studio). Mixed by Serban Ghenea at MixStar Studios, Virginia Beach VA. Designed for Mix John Hanes; Mix Wizard was Tim Roberts. The Remix ( Fonerellli 's New Romantic Club Remix ) developed by Aaron McClennand for Mena music.

Music Video

The music video was directed by the choreographer and music video director Diane Martel on 20 December 2009. It ran for the first time on 15 January 2010 on VH1. The video shows Lambert, who is attacked by a cameraman. Paparazzi represented by actors follow him outside of a night club until his car. In other scenes, he plays with his band.

Pinks version

On their album Greatest Hits ... So Far! Pink also published one of her eingesungene version of the title, after she has sung it on the " Funhouse Summer Carnival 'tour 2010 in Germany for several performances live.

Reception

In the Billboard Hot 100 Whataya Want from Me went into the week of January 2, 2010. After Lambert's work as a mentor for the candidates of the ninth season of American Idol, the song reached the tenth place. In the U.S., the single was sold about 1.513 million times and thus the most successful single from For Your Entertainment. Whataya Want from Me was in the Canadian Hot 100 at number three.

The song was recorded differently. Jonathan Keefe from Slant Magazine praised the song, calling it a " phenomenally well-crafted pop single, the Lambert gives the opportunity to shine. " In the Houston Chronicle wrote Joey Guerra, the song would go on the CD at most " forward " or " straight " (" straight forward " ), he did not call it bad. Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune liked the piece less and called it " whiny ".
